This note on 14 March 2015:

Very occasionally, Palmcricket crashes with a fatal error on the Palm handheld
which prevents any further access to Palmcricket score-sheets.

Normally this can be resolved via:
1. A hotsync to a desktop Windows computer to save the current
(possibly corrupted) match and all archived matches.
2. A hard reset on the Palm unit to clear all data and software
3. Re-installation of Palmcricket, if not already in flash memory.

Alternatively, if a hotsync is not possible, PalmOs can be used
directly to copy the Palmcricket app and all Palmcricket score-sheets,
including current, to the SD card. A Windows desktop or laptop
computer can be then used to move the copied
score-sheets from the SD card's \PALM\Launcher folder to a safe location
on the desktop computer.

Unfortunately, if the Palmcricket app had been flashed permanently into the
PalmOS Flash-Ram, PalmOs does not allow the app or its files to be copied.

As a last resort, the Pmatches utility can then be used to safeguard
the current match and any matches archived on the Palm by copying
them to the SD card .

Emergency Procedure (use carefully with caution):
 1. Download and unzip pmatches.prc from the Palmcricket website's
    download page.
 2. Insert the Palm's SD card into the SD card reader on the
    Windows desktop or laptop computer.
 3. Use Windows explorer to locate the unzipped pmatches.prc
and copy it to the Palm SD card in folder:
          E:\PALM\Launcher
(where E:\ is the drive allocated by Windows to the SD card).
 4. Ensure that there are no previous Palmcricket score-sheets in the
E:\PALM\Launcher folder. These have the exension pdb, and
should be recognisable by the names used to archive them.
Use Windows explorer to move any previous score-sheets out of the
    folder to a safe location.
 5. Remove the SD card and insert it into the Palm's SD slot.
The Palm should make a noise and display the contents
of the card. If copied correctly from the Windows computer,
one should see the PMatches icon. Tap on the icon
to display the information screen. The app doesn't do anything.
It is used to identify Palmcricket score-sheets on the
handheld, nothing more. The actual copy and delete operations
are performed by PalmOS on all files with the same application ID.
 6. Tap on the house icon on the Palm to exit and return to the window
    showing the SD card contents.
 7. Tap on the menu top left (which is displaying the time)
to access the drop down menu.
 8. Tap on Copy.
 9. Tap on the down arrow next to Copy From and select the Card
10. Tap on PMatches, to highlight, then tap the Copy button
The Palm will now copy PMatches from the card to the handheld,
as well any other match score-sheets in the same folder
on the SD card. The Palmcricket app, if present and not in flash-ram,
    will also be copied across.
11. Once the PMatches app is present on the handheld unit, its ID can be
used by PalmOS to identify related score-sheet files.
12. Tap on the menu again, and select Copy
13. Select Copy From: Handheld, To: SD Card.
14. Tap on PMatches to highlight, then tap Copy button.
15. PMatches and all associated score-sheets stored on the handheld
will now be copied to the SD card.
16. Remove the SD card from the handheld and insert into
    the Windows Computer's SD card.
17. Navigate to the folder E:\PALM\Launcher and move
all the pdb files to a safe location, for later
viewing and printing of Palmcricket score-sheets.
In particular, make sure that the current score-sheet
PcriDB.pdb is no longer in the folder, otherwise
it may be copied back again to the handheld unit.
19. On the Palm handheld, all score-sheets including current
can now be deleted, by using the PalmOS menu
    to delete PMatches.
20. If Palmcricket was permamently stored in flash-ram,
it will still be available. Otherwise it will also
be deleted. Copy it from back to the handheld from the SD card,
first making sure that PcriDB.PDB is no longer on the
E:\PALM\Launcher folder. If PalmOS copies PcriDB.PDB back
along with Palmcricket, the fatal error will re-appear.
21. Restart Palmcricket. It should now operate normally, starting with a
    blank new match.
22. If the fatal error persists, there may be something wrong
with the hardware, in which the unit should be sent for repair.
